Vivaldi

The son of a talented violinist Vivaldi gave up the priesthood to become a violin teacher at an orphange and wrote most of his great works for the appreciation and benefit of his students. He sought harmonic contrasts and innovative melodies to educate the children but the joyous music was eventually heard outside the orphanage and Vivaldi became hugely popular. His music inspired Bach who transcribed a number of Vivaldi's concertos for solo keyboard, along with a number for orchestra. Bach also adored Vivaldi's most famous work, The Four Seasons, which Vivaldi composed without the use of percussion to dramatise the effects he sought to portray.
